Songs of Whychus and Face the Sun

In the spring of 2014 and 2015, we worked with forty Sisters High School students in a writing and visual arts emphasis of fieldwork. For three weeks, these students spent multiple afternoons writing poetry by Whychus Creek and creating art inspired by their surroundings. Their poetry was eventually turned into music. Each year, the students’ final product was a CD that contained the songs they wrote about Whychus Creek. We would like to thank the Roundhouse Foundation for their support of this project, and Brent Alan for spending many hours in his studio recording and editing with the students. A huge thanks to their amazing teacher, Samra Spear, for her dedication and enthusiasm for the project!

The following students created all of the songs and art for each of these projects:
Songs of Whychus: Chris Burdick, Angelo Frack, Laynie Hildebrand, Shawn Horton, Kendra Kemp, Gwen Knoop, Tristan Lewis, Cierra Mann, Natalie Marshall, Keenan O’Hern, Ben Pope, Dani Rudinsky, Yasha Saldi, Connor Schaab, Caylyn Sheldon, Savannah Spear, Cheyenne Sproat, Angela Todd, Dakota Wagner, Riley Warburton, and Angela Williams.

Face the Sun: Hunter Blakelock, Megan Calarco, Macadia Calavan, Adie Elison, Megan Ellsworth, Lani Fernandez, Carly Gascon, Tara Greaney, Chance Halley, Nina Horner, Steen Johnson, Dallas Knoop, Colton Mannhalter, Cody Martin, Alena Nore, Halston Sellentin, Jessica Shepardson, and Peyton Zanck.
