Stream Sampling on Whychus Creek

Join Us For Stream Sampling Days

August 6th and 7th

Creekside Park | Sisters, OR

Join us for our annual Stream Sampling Days this August! We are looking for community volunteers to help collect samples of macroinvertebrates along 24.5 miles of Whychus Creek. The samples collected from Whychus Creek will be utilized as biological indicators of stream health.

Sampling aquatic insects provides important insights into the health of Whychus Creek. Each summer, volunteers gather at Creekside Park in Sisters for a sampling training. Then, in teams of two to four, community volunteers and partners use nets to collect aquatic insect samples from the stream at different sites along Whychus Creek. This event is a great opportunity to learn about habitat restoration on Whychus Creek for salmon and steelhead, spend a day along less-visited reaches of the creek, and contribute to ongoing research about how restoration actions are changing stream conditions.

"So happy for the opportunity to participate and give back in a small way. Plus meet like-minded and interesting people that I otherwise wouldn't cross paths with."
