Middle Deschutes Monitoring
The Middle Deschutes River between the City of Bend and Lake Billy Chinook has been the focus of intensive streamflow restoration efforts over the past 10 years. Alongside streamflow restoration efforts, UDWC and partners have monitored temperature in the Middle Deschutes since 2001 to evaluate how stream temperature is changing as flows increase. Temperature and other water quality data are available here.
In early 2012, we launched a partnership with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) to evaluate the status of fish populations in the Middle Deschutes River. The fisheries monitoring is designed to develop baseline information on native redband and introduced brown trout and their use of habitat in relation to stream temperature.
