Deschutes River

Our work focuses on the Deschutes River from its origins in the Cascade range to the confluence with the Metolius and Crooked Rivers at Lake Billy Chinook.  Along this 130-mile route, the river passes through several reservoirs, public land, Sunriver, the City of Bend and a 30-mile-long desert canyon.  This reach is utilized by many for a wide range of recreational opportunities, including fishing, boating, hiking and wildlife viewing.

Most of the water serving irrigated agriculture in Central Oregon is diverted from this reach of the river.  Our restoration focus is therefore rooted in assisting with water management (e.g., the affects of modified flow on stream habitat and fisheries), its associated infrastructure (e.g., dams and diversions) and more recently on assisting protection and restoration of critical habitat for the listed Oregon Spotted Frog.  Our restoration priorities are focused by reach to reflect diverse needs of the Deschutes River. You can learn more about those priorities here.
