Metolius River

The Metolius River and its tributaries are the focus of important restoration and management efforts because Chinook and sockeye salmon are being reintroduced to this watershed as part of the anadromous fish reintroduction effort on the Deschutes River.  This effort, led by Portland General Electric (PGE) and the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs (Tribes) is bringing these salmon back to the Metolius River for the first time in more than 50 years.

While much of the Metolius River watershed is in very good condition, there are some important restoration needs.  Our priorities here include:

  • Provide fish passage and screening at dams and/or diversions, primarily on tributaries;
  • Protect and restore a healthy stream corridor, including protection and/or restoration of wetlands, in-stream habitat, riparian and floodplain areas;
  • Reduce summer water temperature in Lake Creek.

Below is a list of the projects we have completed and/or are in the process of completing in the Metolius Basin. Please check back often, as we will be adding information about each of the projects and adding new ones when we begin them. If you would like more detailed information at this time, please email Mathias.
